I'm trying to figure out why the Matrox PowerDesk control panel only half-loads. Installed right, rebooted whenever I open the control panel (which is actually an application in the Applications folder) I get the icon in the Dock, the name of the App next to the Apple menu but nothing else. Hitting any keys or quitting it with the keyboard only ends with system beeps, All I can do is quit it via the Dock.

On the App name itself, I can click it but nothing shows up. Of course, nothing on Google or Matrox's website. I really need a custom resolution for the TripleHead2Go (2560X720) on my MacBook Pro Penryn. Running 10.5.8. EDIT: Tried using another 'clean' user on the same computer, same symptoms. I have a TripleHead2Go that I use with my MacBook Pro 15' Santa Rosa machine.
It's running at 3840x1024 resolution and working great. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8 and have version 1.01.00.005 of the control panel software installed. My TripleHead2Go has a USB port for power and communicating with the control panel. I normally power the box with an external USB power adapter, but if I want to use the control panel, then I have to plug the USB plug directly into my machine. If it's plugged into an external power adapter the display still works great as long as it's pre-configured correctly, but the Matrox software doesn't detect device or allow me to change any settings in the control panel.

Those guys are good but as a lifetime computer nerd it really should not be that hard to figure out. These units last for me about two years before they just die. So this is my third one. If there was another solution for driving a MAC to three monitors I'd switch in a heartbeat. I use the Matrox TripleHead2Go's to trick my computers into thinking one output is actually 3 wide and expanded over 3 projectors. I had the Digital SE edition and that one is awesome too but I wanted to be able to make 200ft cable runs. By switching to the DP edition I was able to put together a system that has 200ft vga cable runs to each projector for under 1,000$ (including the Matrox, dp - vga converters, and splitter/extenders). With the Digital SE I would have had to spend that much on each run via HDMI or DVI over Cat5. The Triplehead2go has an easy set up and is useful for a wide range of applications. The software does have intermittent issues with recent MacOs versions such as Mavericks but they can be worked around. We have had a hardware failures with one of these products before but they are backed by a warranty. Pros: good buy, multi-application, straight-forward set up Cons: occasional software issues, we have experienced a hardware failure resulting in its return.
