New Quake Game announced at QuakeCon id CEO Todd Hollenshead has announced that a new entry in the Quake series is planned and it will be built with id's new engine, id Tech 5. The development team at id that will work on this game is currently working on another project called Quake Zero, 'a free-to-play version of Quake 3 that will be played in a Web browser.' I wonder what they are going to do for the Quake V single-player campaign? Continue the story of Quake IV, perhaps?
Maybe this time they will also take the time to make a worthy successor to the awesome multiplayer of Quake III: Arena. New Quake Game announced at QuakeCon id CEO Todd Hollenshead has announced that a new entry in the Quake series is planned and it will be built with id's new engine, id Tech 5.

Continue the story of Quake IV, perhaps? Maybe this time they will also take the time to make a worthy successor to the awesome multiplayer of Quake III: Arena. PCgamerX there is enemy territory: Quake wars coming out. The Quake series is definitely not known for it's story anymore than Doom.
I think it is most famous for the deathmatch multiplayer of Quake, Quake II, and Quake III: Arena. The original Quake single-player basically consisted of roaming dark, atmospheric dungeons and killing lots of monsters with big guns. There was basically no story, but the haunting atmosphere and sound effects still make the game fun to play today, I think. Quake II had more of a story- it was about a space marine who travels to the planet Stroggos to battle these crazy aliens called the Strogg who are part flesh, part machine. The upcoming Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a sort of multiplayer prequel to Quake II which features events that occurred during the initial Strogg invasion of Earth.
Quake III: Arena does not really have anything to do with the other games in the series- it was (and still is) a highly popular, fast-paced multiplayer deathmatch game. It had a single-player component, but it was just a ladder of one-on-one bot matches. Quake IV's single-player continues the story of the single-player campaign in Quake II and the multiplayer is basically Quake III: Arena with new graphics. By the way, it was recently announced that nearly every id Software game is going to be released on Steam, so you can buy Quake, Quake II, Quake III: Arena and all of their mission packs (expansions). I am not sure if Quake IV will be on Steam. There is enemy territory: Quake wars coming out. Adders99 I tried Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory a few times, but I couldn't really get into it.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars looks like a lot of fun, though. It looks like it has a lot more depth than Battlefield 2/2142. Enemy Territory is a separate series from Quake, though. It is developed by Splash Damage, not id. Quake V will be the proper successor to Quake IV.
Of course, we are likely to see id's newly announced game, Rage, before this new Quake game. The new Tech 5 engine sounds really cool. Apparently one of the big selling points for developers is that they will be able to do multiplatform coding very easily, which probably means that the new Quake game will, like Rage, be a PC/Mac/PS3/Xbox360 title, with comparable if not equivalent quality for the different versions. Also, the engine allows developers and artists to work with 'megatextures' which are basically one gigantic texture which covers all the terrain in a level, rather than a whole bunch of small, tiled texture sections. This will allow for very highly detailed texture features. And the best part, John Carmack says that the performance will not suffer as a result of this added detail- the engine will perform solidly on current hardware.
Also, there has been some speculation that the Tech 5 engine will not use DX10. Carmack is not a big fan of Vista, and he does not believe that DX10 adds enough interesting features beyond the DX9 API to justify forcing users to migrate to Vista just to get the best quality from the engine.
It would be very interesting if Tech 5 did not support DX10, with other big engines like Unreal 3 and CryEngine 2 coming soon. Okay, it looks like the new Quake game (aside from the Quake Zero project to make a free, ad-sponsored version of Quake III: Arena that runs in a web browser) is going to be a sequel to Quake III: Arena. John Carmack said today: 'the goal is here to make - after Quake Zero - then we'll probably take all of the lessons we learn from that interaction and make an id Tech 5 Quake Arena sequel with all the bells and whistles. All of the modern stuff on there.' The dev team working on the Quake Zero project and the Quake Arena sequel is in-house, rather than another company such as Raven Software, who did most of the development for Quake IV. Also, Carmack mentioned that 'there will be a Doom 4, we don't have it scheduled or a team assigned to it, but there will be a Doom 4.' Read the full interview at Game Informer, here.
With doom 4 they had better make it atmospheric(unlike doom 3 where you ran around and shot everything to pieces while always looking behind your back for newly spawned monsters) or they should instill the terror that the old dooms had. I remember being much more afraid of a cyber demon in the old dooms than doom 3.
They need to make it eitherold school run and gun, or try to make it super atmospheric (not enemies popping up everywhere, i mean you are scared to look around every corner; every monster should be a challenge and you should feel a sense of accomplishment when you kill it.) i had much more fun with the doom 3 alpha( 1 level)than actual doom 3 because it was MUCH more atmospheric and thrilling. Crucifier Yeah, I found Doom 3 to be rather boring and repetitive. I actually thought Quake 4 was more atmospheric and creepy than Doom 3. Hopefully they will do a better job with Doom 4.
