On Windows I can stream 720p 30fps from my LifeCam Studio without any issues, but on Linux it shows as 100% CPU in Skype and struggles to keep a decent frame rate/bit rate. However I can transcode 1080p video at well over 30fps on this machine (i5 2500K) in Linux so I don’t see why it would be struggling to do 720p encoding in real-time in Skype. I don’t want to get a Skype certified camera with H264 in the camera itself as I haven’t found one that comes close to the same picture quality as the LifeCam Studio using software encoding.
